About me!

Hi! My name is Cassandra Burns and I am a junior at Saint Mike's. I am an English major with minors in Anthropology and French. I am from a very very small town in upstate New York called North River. The town is on the Hudson River Gorge and I spend my summers guiding rafting trips through the gorge and my winters skiing at Gore Mountain. Skiing is quite possibly my favorite thing in the world (next to hot sauce which my fellow blogger and roommate Mairead can vouch for). I love living in the mountains, so coming to college in VT was a great choice for me. Not many people get to to live in the Adirondacks and Green Mountains all year round.
Some of my other favorite things are reading, watching and quoting"The Princess Bride" until everyone is so annoyed with me they've left the room, and spending time with my friends and family. My favorite authors are probably Dave Eggers and Barbara Kingsolver and of course J.K. Rowling. I am a self proclaimed Harry Potter nerd; I won't even say how many times I've read them all. My love for reading led me to be an English major here at SMC and I am so happy that I chose it. I would love to eventually teach high school English at some point in my life.

I am finishing up a semester full of critical theory, nineteenth century novels, French and anthropology. I have one more final to go and then I am headed home! Next semester (which is only one month away) I will be studying in Athens, Greece! I am soooo excited, and a little nervous, to go to Greece. I don't speak a word of Greek besides baklava (which I think will definitley come in handy) but I am hoping to learn! Next semester I will be taking four classes; Greek Philosophy, The Orthodox Church, Gender and Sexuality in Modern Greece and Aegean and Ancient Greek Art and Archeology. I am really excited to take the archeology class, ever since I was little I have wanted to learn more about archeology and I am finally getting my chance! I am hoping to get to know the culture in Greece as well as I can in my four months there and have a blast doing it!
